The majority of the U.S. is at risk for severe weather. Here in the Midwest, we get snowstorms, extreme cold, torrential rains, flooding, lightning, and severe thunderstorms with and without tornadoes. All things that can wreak havoc in your lives. Here are some safety tips on keeping your family safe and prepared for the unexpected weather!
- Have a plan…where to go, meet, and don’t forget your pets. When making your plan make sure you have 2 ways in and out of the house if you need to evacuate.
- Stay out of the water; even if it’s only a few inches deep; it can be dangerous
- Stay away from power lines and always report downlines
- To prevent any electrical damage, unplug your electrical items, that could possibly be affected by lightning strikes
- If winter, make sure the driveway and entryway to the house is clear of snow and ice
- Lastly, make sure your house number is visible
